A recent survey by Houzz.com, which included 7,645 respondents, found that:
– No Bathtub: 43% of respondents are choosing to take the bath tub out of their remodeling plans, even out of the master bathroom.
-“Amazing Showers”: Instead of a tub in the plans, the trend in bathrooms right now is a bigger, more elaborate shower.
–Let the Light In: People are also choosing abundant light through windows and skylights; some even are opting for shower heads with LED lights that cause the water to appear as a different color.
Why leave out the tub? For older homeowners, not only are the tubs rarely used, more accessible showers which require more space are a factor. In general, the inclusion of a tub does not allow enough space for the trendy larger, elaborate shower which includes multiple sprays, shower heads that simulate rain, and/or seats. Usually enclosed in glass (which lets more light shine through), the frameless option is being chosen by 54% of homeowners.
At the 2014 Home Show in Myrtle Beach held by Horry-Georgetown Builders Association, the consensus of the people regarding their bathroom remodeling plans matched the findings of this survey; almost everyone we spoke with were keeping the tubs out of their plans. Our granite/tile shower model (shown here), built to scale for the Home Show, with bright lighting, large showerhead, and seating, caught the attention of those following the trend.
