Trends & Tips for Your 2022 Kitchen Remodel

The kitchen is the beating heart of any home. It is where we go for sustenance – both the food variety and the bonding-with-loved-ones variety. And after two years of a pandemic, many of us have spent much more time both at home and in our kitchens than before and might have noticed our kitchens might need a well-deserved upgrade.

Before any kitchen remodel, it is essential to take ample time to plan exactly what you want done. If you’re going to be spending your hard earned time and money (not to mention on such an essential part of your home) you’ll want it done right the first time.

Your guiding light through this process is one question: what is the real reason you want to remodel your kitchen? That question will help inspire you and keep you on track. For example,

  • What is the workflow of your kitchen, and your family’s habits?

With this in mind, you’ll be able to suss out what can be improved or changed about your kitchen in your remodel. You could create stations throughout the space by grouping appliances and gadgets with similar functions and having dedicated spots for each. You can plot your cabinetry into the floor plan, creating a breakfast nook. The possibilities are endless!

  • How is the storage in your kitchen? Do you need more work space?

Deeper drawers can be installed to hold pots and pans, with in-drawer pegs to help keep them organized and tidy. Corbels and shelving support can be added to islands or cabinets to extend countertops. Angled dividers can be built into drawers for longer utensils to free up storage space.

Need a little more inspiration? Here a few more emerging kitchen design trends in 2022:

  • Waterfall islands

Both beautiful and functional, waterfall islands can be visually impactful, especially with the right pops of color on the cabinetry or in striking countertop materials

  • Pops of color

Instead of the neutral palettes of the last few years, more and more people are adding pops of color to their kitchens, with deep and jewel tones on backsplashes and cabinet doors, or even on the interiors of cabinets and pantries. Dark blues, ruby, and mustard yellow seem to be most popular.

  • Mix and match

If changing the color of your kitchen isn’t to your taste, you can always make your kitchen more dynamic by not being afraid to mix and match textures and colors. Going for wood tones and less hardware can make your kitchen look homey and warm.

  • Statement backsplash

Brightly colored or retro-inspired backsplashes can bring visual interest to your kitchen. Glossy tile in any color can bring more light to the space. Mirrored glass backsplashes could also become a trend in 2022 – they create the illusion of more space, create light, are easy to clean, and quick to install!

  • Layered lighting

Putting lighting into specific task areas and mixing up styles of light fixtures brings enough light into your kitchen without being over-bright.
