Increasing Storage Space During Your Bathroom Remodel

Bathroom remodels are some of the most popular home renovation projects undertaken by the typical homeowner. They’re also a great way to increase the livability and value of your home. One area of that remodel that can be easily overlooked is storage space. Planning on remodeling a smaller bathroom? That doesn’t mean you should have to give up any valuable space. If you’re working with an existing layout, here are a few ideas for increasing storage space during your bathroom remodel.

Built-In Storage

When you have a small bathroom, built-in medicine cabinets can provide valuable storage in a space-saving way. In addition, when these cabinets are set into your walls, it provides even more depth and width. You can use this space to store smaller toiletries like toothbrushes and makeup or larger items like towels depending on its depth. If you’re thinking about built-in cabinets, consider adding a lighted mirror and power outlets inside for double use. This way, you can even charge things from inside the cabinets without taking up more space.

Invest in a Walk-in Shower

If your bathroom has a bathtub-shower combo, and you no longer need the tub feature, converting the space into a standalone shower saves space and makes it easier to create storage. This conversion can allow re-modelers to create shower cabinets or other small vertical storage for soaps, shampoos, and towels.

Custom Creations

We know that stock cabinetry can be beautiful, especially if you’re basing your inspiration off of products you see. However, these stock vanities come in limited sizes, shapes, and colors. When dealing with a smaller or oddly-shaped bathroom, it may be a better idea to consider custom vanities! A custom vanity can be built to your specific space and help maximize that space while still fitting into your style. It can allow for more hidden cabinet storage, like baskets or wider drawers while still following the flow of the room.

Go Vertical

Think floor-to-ceiling rather than wall-to-wall. Consider placing storage above the toilet to fill that space, or placing long vertical shelves next to the shower to hold any accessories. You can even bring in other decor such as a ladder to hold towels in plain sight rather than taking up storage space. This allows for more floor space as well, making it easier to move around the room and dissolve that feeling of clutter.

Use Your Walls

Floating shelves are a great way to add storage space to your bathroom without adding footprint. When dealing with a smaller bathroom, wall space can be a lifesaver. Try optimizing narrow shelves that can add to the style you’re looking for to hold decorative items, cosmetics, or any other small products you may have. These are a great way to create storage without taking up space with bulkier furniture.

We LOVE it!

"We want to let you know that we are truly thankful that we selected you to do our remodel.  We are so delighted.  It was a complete remodel (interior painting the entire house, counters, ceramic flooring, bamboo flooring, countertops, appliances, cabinets and patio).  What made it even more difficult is we currently live 1500 miles away. Thank you once again, and we are so happy with the total house remodel - when we are ready to do the bathrooms, you can guess who we will call!  We LOVE it!
